This Shrimp Newburg is a rich and creamy seafood dish featuring tender shrimp cooked in a luxurious butter, cream, and sherry sauce. It’s an easy yet elegant recipe perfect for a comforting dinner or special occasion meal.
Ingredients
1 lb shrimp, peeled and deveined
2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 cup heavy cream
1/2 cup milk
1/4 cup dry sherry
2 egg yolks
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1 tablespoon chopped parsley
Toast points or rice for serving
Instructions
1. Melt butter in a skillet over medium heat.
2. Add flour and whisk continuously for about 1 minute to create a roux.
3. Slowly whisk in heavy cream and milk until the sauce becomes smooth.
4. Cook the sauce for 3–4 minutes until it begins to thicken.
5. Add paprika, salt and black pepper and stir well.
6. Add shrimp to the sauce and cook for about 4 minutes until pink and tender.
7. In a small bowl whisk egg yolks with dry sherry.
8. Slowly stir the egg mixture into the sauce while stirring constantly.
9. Cook gently for another 1–2 minutes until the sauce becomes creamy and rich.
10. Remove from heat and sprinkle chopped parsley on top.
11. Serve warm over toast points, rice, or puff pastry.
Notes
Use fresh shrimp for the best flavor and texture.
Be careful not to overcook the shrimp.
Lobster or crab can also be used instead of shrimp.
Serve with toasted bread, rice, or pasta for a complete meal.
