This Greek Shrimp Saganaki is a classic Mediterranean dish featuring juicy shrimp simmered in a rich tomato sauce with garlic, herbs, and creamy feta cheese. It’s a flavorful and easy seafood recipe perfect for a light dinner or appetizer.
Ingredients
1 lb shrimp, peeled and deveined
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 small onion, finely chopped
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes
1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 cup crumbled feta cheese
2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
1 tablespoon lemon juice
Instructions
1. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
2. Add chopped onion and cook for about 4–5 minutes until softened.
3. Add minced garlic and cook for about 30 seconds.
4. Stir in crushed tomatoes, red pepper flakes, oregano, salt and black pepper.
5. Simmer the sauce for about 10 minutes until slightly thickened.
6. Add shrimp to the skillet and cook for 4–5 minutes until pink and cooked through.
7. Sprinkle crumbled feta cheese over the shrimp and sauce.
8. Cook for another 1–2 minutes until the feta softens.
9. Remove from heat and drizzle with lemon juice.
10. Garnish with chopped parsley and serve warm.
Notes
Use fresh shrimp for best flavor.
Serve with crusty bread or over rice.
Add a splash of white wine for extra depth.
Do not overcook shrimp to keep them tender.
